Exercising as you Age

It’s common knowledge that exercise is great for you, and this continues to hold true as you age. Granted, you may not be able to do what you could in your 20s when you get to your 40s and 50s, but at the same time you may not want to. Sure, it’s nice to lift heavy and do very fast paced cardio when you’re younger, but it can and will catch up to your joints eventually. I can say this from experience. There are some hard and fast rules to continue exercising as you age.

Use Proper Form

The best thing you can do to continue weight training and cardiovascular exercise as you get older is to always be aware of exercise form. Even if you’re a seasoned lifter your form can lapse if you just go through the motions and aren’t concentrating on doing what you should be doing. Every now and then, you may need to give your form a look on some exercises.

Of course, there are also lifters who never lift with proper form on certain exercises (bench press is a particularly popular one to see bad form on) even after years of training. In most of these cases, it usually comes down to lifters trying to use more weight than they can handle properly. It can be hard to leave your ego at the door, but it’s the best policy if you don’t want to eventually hurt yourself.

Don’t Overdo a Good Thing

You also need to avoid overtraining if you want to continue lifting into middle age. Of course you shouldn’t overdo it at any age, but you may be able to handle doing more intense training when you are younger. Just be sure to get more rest and maybe not do quite as many sets as you once did. Personally, the biggest difference I’ve made as I’ve gotten older is to have more days between the training of each muscle group – hitting them once every 6 or 7 days as opposed to the 4 to 5 days I used to do.

Avoid Joint Pain

Keeping joints healthy is of the utmost importance for those who would like to continue training hard into middle age. Even if you use proper form and don’t overtrain, you will still likely end up with some joint pain from heavy lifting and intense cardio. To help combat knee, elbow or other joint pain, you can try CBD creams, balms and lotions. Topical CBD creams will target the areas you apply them to, so you can get relief from muscle soreness and joint aches and pains where you need it. If you want to keep exercising as you age, try Prosper CBD Pain Freeze Cream to help alleviate soreness.

Keep It Going

Of course the best thing you can do for yourself as you get older is to continue exercising, just making sure not to overdo it. Even now, I feel like I’m being lazy if I don’t get a workout in. It does take dedication, and making sure it’s part of your daily routine makes it so much easier.
